Cheongpoonghyanggyo(School)

Hyanggyo

This is school and people enshrined perfect Confucian scholar's ancestral tablet and performed ancestral rites, and teachers educated their students. In Goryeo Chungsuk king(1313∼1330, 1332∼1339), this school was established first. Originally, this was in Multae-li, but in Chosun Jeongjo(King) on the 3rd year(1779), this was moved to Gyo-li. But because of Chungju dam, this was moved to this place again.

Now, Daesungjeon, Myeongryundang, Dongjae, Seojae and Naesam gate, etc, are there.

Educational place is in the front of this building and the place of ancestral rites is behind this building. Lecture hall was 'Myeongryundang' and in this hall, students studied hard. Educational place is Dongjae and Seojae and behind this building, Daesungjeon, Dongmu and seomu which enshrined the ancestral tablet are there.

In Chosun dynasty, teachers received lands, books, slaves from government and taught their students, but after Gabogaehyuk(1894), they only enshrined ancestral tablets so they did not teach their student.
